LA485: Foreign Language and Intercultural Competency Training Course 

 

  • This course is a blended/hybrid online course, with remote access to course materials, incorporating an in-class lab rotation model and face to face collaborative group activities. It is designed to develop intercultural communicative skills, using information communication technologies (ICT) and virtual reality.

  • The foreign language and intercultural competency training course will introduce and develop basic intercultural communicative skills and create opportunities for leaders of character to become proficient in applying conflict management, critical thinking, decision making, problem solving, leadership and self-management skills to be applied in a multifaceted operational environment.

  • It will prepare cadets for a career with the United States Armed Forces

Mission

  1. To educate, train, and inspire Corps of Cadets and to build leaders of character  that value Country, Duty, and Honor.

  2. To prepare future officers for a career in the United States Armed Forces.

Purpose 

  1. This course is designed to instruct military cadets on Iraqi culture, religion, social and economic development.

  2. It is intended to teach conflict management, critical thinking, decision making, problem solving, leadership and self-management.

  3. It allows opportunities for cadets to interact in a 3D virtual reality world, to practice Iraq culture and language, to become proficient and have a functional knowledge of the Iraqi language and culture.

  4. The course is intended to teach cadets how to maintain social order, balance self-interest with that of culturally sensitive global prospects and prepare them for Army services.

This program provides future officers with a thorough knowledge of foreign language and intercultural competencies including:

  2. Ability to draw comparisons between English and Iraqi language and culture.

  3. Use appropriate language and gestures.

  4. Embrace diversity and cultural competence.

  5. Communicate effectively using ethical, social, environmental, and safety practices.

Create

This program teaches necessary communicative life skills and intercultural competencies that future officers will need to perform their job:

  1. Knowledge of communicative skills and intercultural competence

  2. Knowledge of ethical, social, and safety practices.

  3. Knowledge of leadership and self-management skills and how this contributes to operational environments.

  4. Ability to function as a part of an interdisciplinary team

  5. Ability to solve problems, apply conflict management, critical thinking, decision making, leadership and self-management skills.

DO

This program teacher the following discrete skills:

  1.  Reproduction of sounds.
