There are two types of AMD [dry and wet]. Approximately 90% have the "dry" type, and the other 10 percent have the "wet" type.

Wet AMD occurs when abnormal fragile blood vessels located behind retina start growing under the macula. The blood vessels often leak blood and fluid causing the macula to move from its normal location damaging to the macula rapidly.

Wet macular degeneration is worst than the dry and can lead loss of vision quicker.

In order to diagnose the disease you need a comprehensive dilated eye exam.
