Instructional design models “instructional design,” “system development,” “systematic instruction,” and “instructional system” were systematically designed instructional materials (1960's), linked together to form a process, or model with areas such as task analysis, objective specification, and criterion-referenced testing
During the 1970s,there was a lot of interest in the field of instructional design, the U.S. military adopted an instructional design model by Branson in 1975 [ADDIE ] to be used as development of training materials .Dick & Carey model 1978, and Morrison, Ross, Kemp, & Kalman are still taught today in studying instructional design. The first graduate program in ID was created. Instructional design took off in business and industry sector because it improved the quality of training.
During the 1980s the instructional design process flourished in the business, industry, military and in the international arena. Numerous publications were written on the principles of cognitive psychology on the instructional design process. ID became interested in computer-based instruction since computers were taking over instructional design tasks.

Instructional Technology

Human performance improvement movement and constructivism movement began to flourish in the 1990's with emphasis on authentic” learning to resemble real world problems. Computers went from learning tools to OJT aides to improve performance. The internet and intranet, personal computers, mobile devices, tablets and social medias sites and introduction of eLearning opened up new venues for ID.
